Now begins the big shopping week Black week and in less than a month Christmas awaits. As post offices fill up with packages, the risk of fraud also increases.
– Fraudsters will try to use opportunities to deceive inattentive consumers, says Alexis Larsson who is head of security at Postnord.
In 2023, 238,371 fraud crimes were reported, which was an increase of 22 percent from 2022, according to figures from the Crime Prevention Council.
Postnord sees how the cases of online fraud are increasing as online shopping increases in the run-up to Christmas shopping. Something even the parcel company Bring certifies.
– During the sale period, it is not unusual to have several packages on the way. A common method is for fraudsters to send text messages or emails that an action is required for your package to arrive, says Tomas Stjernenfall, head of security at Bring.
For example, the fraudsters may say that you need to pay something in order to collect your package. But neither Bring nor Postnord ask for payments in their package notifications.
